Minot has been rainy but still shy of recordMINOT, N.D. — A weather station south of Minot is close to setting an annual precipitation record, but the official reporting station at the airport is still eight inches shy of a new soggy mark.
Jim Tarasenko at the North Central Research and Extension Center says the past two rainfalls have totaled almost 2 1/2 inches. He says the total precipitation at the center for the year of 26.47 inches is about a half-inch short of the record set in 1975 — 26.99 inches.
That was also the previous record at the Minot airport, 34 miles north. But Bismarck meteorologist Lindsay Tardif-Huber says the National Weather Service recently refigured data and changed the 1975 total to 28.39 inches.
Since 20.17 inches has fallen this year, a new official record is eight inches away.
