Minot Air Base commander says new projects took hard workMINOT, N.D. — The commander of the Minot Air Force Base says the completion of the base's new air traffic control tower and airfield management building is the culmination of years of hard work and planning.
Col. Alex Mezynski spoke Friday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the base improvements. Construction on the $16.3 million project began in April 2012.
Mezynski says the tower and airfield building replace structures that were more than four decades old.
The Minot Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1ddbwkL) that the new facilities provide an unobstructed view of the flight line to monitor operations and weather fronts.
Both structures are equipped with geothermal systems using subsurface ground water to help heat and cool the buildings.
