Weather Talk: Later start to school in ND makes sense weather-wiseThere seems to be a national trend of starting the school year earlier and earlier. In North Dakota, there has been some pressure recently to force public schools to begin the school year after Labor Day. The state of Minnesota has such a law. If weather is the primary consideration, this really does make good sense.
The average high in Fargo-Moorhead today is 80 degrees, with a record high of 103. The scheduled last day next spring of May 29 has an average high of 74, with a record high of 95. Those few degrees do not sound like much, and any single year can be out of the ordinary, but our weather is far more likely to be sunny and warm in late August or early September than it is in late May or early June.
