Weekend watch: Barnesville's Potato Days

Friday and Saturday

If you’re looking for a day trip to close out your summer, Barnesville, Minn., will never be so a-peeling. The annual Potato Days festival rolls out Friday and Saturday with a variety of events around town. Spuds will be celebrated as edibles (a lefse cookoff from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hildebrand Hall on Friday and French fry feed from 7 to 9 that night downtown), entertainment (a potato car race at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Midwest Bank), fashion (a potato sack style show at 11 a.m. Saturday on the main stage) and fitness (mashed potato wrestling at 5:30 Friday at Assumption Church and a potato picking contest at 10 a.m. in the potato field), among other happenings. Any way you like it, there is a potato with your name on it in Barnesville this weekend. For a full listing of events, go to www.potatodays.com
