Authorities scale back search for man who ran after two-vehicle crash near OakesOAKES, N.D. — Authorities have scaled back a daylong search for the driver of a truck involved in a crash who ran away from the scene north of here and into a corn field.
Law enforcement spent much of the day Wednesday looking for the man, 37-year-old Gabriel Ekstrom of Fargo.
The search continues, but efforts were scaled back Wednesday evening, the North Dakota Highway Patrol stated in a release.
The Highway Patrol said Ekstrom – who was driving a Ford truck – failed to stop about 12:30 p.m. at a stop sign at the intersection of 81st Street Southeast. He struck an eastbound truck on the passenger side driven by Kyle Severance, 26, of Dickey, on Dickey County Road 1.
A Highway Patrol sergeant stated Severance and two passengers in Eckstrom’s truck, Nathaniel Nash, 33, of Fargo, and Jose Montero, 24, of West Fargo, were taken to the Oakes Community Hospital with injuries.
It is unclear if Ekstrom was injured.
The Highway Patrol said Ekstrom will likely face charges once the crash investigation is complete.
