Moorhead gets a new pedestrian signalMOORHEAD – A new pedestrian-activated light is now operating near the Concordia College campus at Eighth Street and 10th Avenue South.
The High-intensity Activated Crosswalk, or HAWK, signal is designed to get the attention of drivers with its unique shape and red signals mounted above a yellow signal.
The sign will not be lit up if pedestrians are not in the crosswalk.
If pedestrians activate the sign using the push button, drivers will see one of four messages:
Flashing Yellow: HAWK system has been activated.
Solid Yellow: Prepare to stop.
Solid Dual Red: Stop.
Flashing Dual Red: Stop and proceed if the crosswalk is clear.
Two HAWK signals are used in Fargo near Centennial Elementary School and Carl Ben Eielson Middle School.
