Dayton: Lt. Gov decision on 2014 run months away
The first-term Democrat addressed the issue after Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon was quoted last week wavering about trying for re-election. In a MinnPost story, Prettner Solon said she and Dayton don't talk regularly.
Dayton wouldn't comment on his relationship with Prettner Solon, a former state senator from Duluth. He said they plan to revisit their political bond later in the year but made clear, "It's her decision to make."
Prettner Solon has previously said she would weigh whether she could be effective and get support in the role before deciding.
Prettner Solon told reporters after a hearing Tuesday about the state Capitol gun-carrying policy that she's resistant to stretching out the campaign by declaring her intentions so early. Regardless, she said she'll be on the job for many more months.
"I have no intention of leaving early," Prettner Solon said.
Several past Minnesota governors have seen a changeover in their lieutenant governors, most recently when Republican Gov. Arne Carlson's swapped his political partners at the midpoint of his two terms.
