Letter: Release of Mexican drug criminal is outrageousMexican officials said Friday (Aug. 16) that a regional court ordered the release of infamous drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero after 28 years in prison, overturning his conviction for the 1985 kidnap, torture and murder of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent. The Association of Former Federal Narcotics Agents is outraged.
At no time should Rafael Caro Quintero see the light of day as a free man. We find it astounding that after 28 years his guilt should still be at issue. This heinous crime was indeed a low point in U.S./Mexico relations.
AFFNA will demand that the U.S. government ask for Caro Quintero’s extradition to the U.S. so he can be given the justice he so richly deserves.
Gutensohn is president, AFFNA.
