Fashion in Focus: Looks for learning

The key to finding great back-to-school looks is to choose outfits that are not only trendy and fun, but are also comfortable and easy to wear.

Most of the time, you end up rushing to get your child out the door, so find looks that are easy to put together without sacrificing on style.

At Gap Kids at West Acres, I found easy-to-wear, stylish looks that fit all the requirements of a perfect back to school wardrobe for your kid.

UNIQUE UNIFORMS

Uniforms may be a requirement in some schools, but that doesn’t mean your child has to skimp on style.

Create a “boho preppy” look on your little girl with this navy fitted jacket with a gathered feminine shoulder. Pair with a Peter Pan collar polo underneath.

Add style to your daughter’s look by wearing her polo out instead of tucked in. The key to this look is wearing the untucked shirt with a jacket that is cut shorter and is more fitted and tailored in shape.

Make her uniform her own with accessories that show her personal style. A studded hair band gives a “Parisian chic” look to her uniform.

A comfy pair of silver sequin Toms make her look shine from head to toe. A chic backpack can add on tons of style, like this navy stripe bag with a pink sequin star on the back.

PREPPY PIZZAZZ

Your little boy will look super handsome in this preppy navy cotton V-neck sweater (shown on Page B1) with a classic button-down cotton shirt. Pair with slim-leg khakis. Make sure they are not too big in the leg so they don’t look sloppy.

Add some pizzazz with a neon striped tie, accessorized with a multi-colored watch, and your little man will looking stylish from head to toe. Add a green-and-navy backpack for a cute matched-up, preppy look.

These khaki-brown shoes are not only a big trend this season in kid’s fashion, but a huge time saver as well. He can just slip them on and be ready to go.

LET YOUR STUDENT SHINE

Your child will score an A+ in this cute cotton navy striped sweater with pink heart sequin elbow patches. Stripes are in for fall and look great with denim.

Skinny jeans are nothing new, but make way for this season’s hottest trend, “the super skinnies.” Roll the cuffs to create a cool skinny “boyfriend jean” look.

Skinny jeans balance something fuller on top like this sweater and puffer vest.

Bright neons make a comeback in pieces like this adorable hot pink puffer vest, the perfect layering piece for those days when it’s a little cooler outside.

Let your little girl shine with sparkles, like these silver sequin Mary Jane ballet flats.

Chunky bracelets are another fun trend in kid’s fashion. I love layering skinnier bracelets around a chunky one.

SPORTY COOL

Your little boy will look sporty cool in this cozy soft, zip-up cardigan. Rock a graphic tee underneath for a layered look. Pair with straight-leg jeans in a faded blue wash.

This season’s tennis shoes are cool enough for class but comfortable enough for running around the playground. Sneakers take on a new twist with neon colors like these Reebok charcoal and bright yellow kicks.

With so many fun styles available and knowing how to make the best choices, you and your child are sure to have a blast this season doing all your back to school shopping.

Tips for back-to-school shopping

- With fall’s unpredictable weather, pieces that layer well are a must.

- Go for better quality over quantity. You will spend more for clothing made with better fabric, which will last longer.

- Find clothes that are versatile and can be worn in different ways will help make the clothes you buy go the extra mile.

- Many schools require uniforms, which can be easy to put together, but might seem boring. Find accessories to hip up your child’s uniform, so they can shine with their own style.
