Weather Talk: Seasonal average of days in 90s is within our reachThe high temperature at Hector International Airport has reached 90 degrees or higher seven times this year. Although we are nowhere near the pace of last year, when Fargo-Moorhead recorded 24 days with a high in the 90s, we are certainly within reach of the seasonal average of 13 such days.
With the exception of last year, 90-degree weather has been lacking in recent years. We recorded 10 such days in 2011, 11 in 2010, only four during the cool summer of 2009 and just six in 2008.
At the moment, it appears that a pattern shift is coming and by this weekend into early next week temperatures will be around 90 degrees and that heat may stick around for a week.
I doubt we will hit 90 degrees for seven straight days, but even a few days around 90 degrees will feel warm after the cool weather of the past three weeks, plus, it may make 2013 a very average year for 90-degree days.
