Documents filed with the case state that Cass County deputy Eric Swenson interviewed Curtis’s girlfriend at the Sanford Health emergency room in Fargo about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, when she was being treated for a bite wound on the eyebrow of her left eye.

She told police she and Curtis had gone that evening to her home in Leonard, where Tanner began teasing her for being Jewish.

Tanner then started to yell at her and to call her obscene names, and when she tried to stop the argument he twisted her to the ground and began to punch her.

The woman said she then grabbed Curtis by the hair to push him off her, when he bit her on the left eyebrow and then the left index finger, breaking skin both times. She eventually able got away and went to the hospital.

Curtis’s bail was set at $5,000. His next court appearance is set for Sept. 11.
