Tennessee biker dies in I-90 crash in S.D.

MONTROSE, S.D. – A Tennessee biker heading home from the Sturgis motorcycle rally died shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 90.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Swenson said David Nowading, 71, of Chattanooga, Tenn., was driving his 2012 Honda Goldwing motorcycle east with a group of biker friends when the accident occurred near Mile Marker 374.

One of the other bikers said Nowading’s motorcycle drifted off the road, ricocheted off a guard cable and went out control, ending up in the middle of the highway.

“It was a violent crash,” Swenson said.

Nowading, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike when it flipped end-over-end. He died at the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation, Swenson said. McCook County Ambulance also responded to the scene.
