Letter: No sources were cited for Fedorchak’s claimsIt’s a good thing that The Forum ran Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak’s article on the Aug. 8 opinion page since the writer failed to cite any sources for her claims.
Yes, I’m aware that I’m writing this letter on my laptop powered by coal-fired and hydro-powered electricity and am grateful, but I expect more from someone trusted by North Dakotans to be one of the state’s industry regulators.
Her final claim: “All of this for a climate policy that half the scientific community disputes …” is particularly egregious and irresponsible. One current source to refute this would be http://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus, where readers will learn that “97 percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the century are very likely due to human activities, and most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position.”
Commissioner Fedorchak is appointed and likely running for an elected term in the near future, and North Dakotans would do well to quiz her hard on her ability to be an impartial and well-informed regulator.
