Park Board member files for Moorhead 4th Ward council seatMOORHEAD – A Park Board member here has decided to run for the open 4th Ward City Council seat.
Cassandra Lougheed filed for the post Friday afternoon. The 4th Ward council seat is being vacated in the November election by Councilman Mark Hintermeyer, who is running for mayor.
Lougheed has served on the Park Board for about two years, and said she wants to do more to serve Moorhead.
“I just felt like it’s time for me to get more involved in the community,” she said.
Lougheed was born in California, raised in Oklahoma, and moved to Halstad in 1995, where she served on the economic development committee. She married her husband in 2000, and they moved to Moorhead in 2005.
She and her husband have five children and eight grandchildren, with another on the way.
Lougheed is an Army veteran and drove school buses in Moorhead for nine years until 2012. She cur-rently is a stay-at-home mom, and also is a part of the Clay County Restora-tive Justice program.
Also running for the 4th Ward seat are Newzad Brifki and Ben Anderson.
