Police search warrant links Moorhead man to burglaries, thefts across ND

MOORHEAD – Moorhead police have executed a search warrant on the home of a man here that appears to connect him to several burglaries representing thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen goods, both in the metro area and in several counties across North Dakota.

Charges haven’t yet been filed in Clay County District Court, but Lt. Tory Jacobson expected them to be filed soon against Zachariah Grotberg, 31, of Moorhead.

Grotberg was in custody in the Cass County Jail when officers raided his home in Moorhead at 1411 9th Ave. S. on Tuesday, Jacobson said. He was there on warrants from other jurisdictions, including a burglary warrant out of Pierce County.

Jacobson said valuables found at Grotberg’s home were too numerous to list, but had apparently been taken from storage facilities and other properties around the region.

“I don’t know what-all it is, to be honest – people can have anything in there,” Jacobson said. Police are working to determine which items were reported stolen and could be linked to outstanding burglary reports made to the Moorhead police, and with departments in Stutsman and Grand Forks counties in North Dakota.

Cass County Jail staff said Grotberg was no longer in their custody as of Friday afternoon, but was sent to another jurisdiction in which he faced additional outstanding warrants, which includes McHenry County.

Court records state Grotberg also faces a burglary warrant out of Barnes County.

Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel said Grotberg was arrested on July 29 in Fargo on a Cass County warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
