Minn. man accused of stealing millions from bossMINNEAPOLIS — An Eden Prairie man is accused of stealing millions of dollars from his former boss — a publishing executive.
A federal grand jury has indicted 56-year-old John Waters, accusing him of mail and wire fraud, income tax evasion and filing a false tax return. The indictment follows a civil lawsuit filed by Waters against West Publishing vice president Gerard Cafesjian. Waters claimed he was owed millions in unpaid compensation. Cafesjian countersued. A federal judge threw out Waters' lawsuit.
The indictment doesn't say how much Waters is accused of taking, but Cafesjian's countersuit accused Waters of embezzling nearly $3 million from 2004 to 2009. Waters worked under Cafesjian at West, then managed his business and philanthropic affairs after Cafesjian retired.
