Their answer to burger craving

MOORHEAD – “What do you crave?”

Troy Thomson and his business partner, Robert Leslie, hope the answer to their slogan is gourmet burgers.

The duo opened Crave Burger Co. on Monday in the former Extreme Pita location at 2501 8th St. S.

The menu features 12 burger recipes that can be served with fresh ground beef, turkey burger or with a grilled chicken breast.

Thomson says the seasonings and cooking method are what will make their burgers stand out. All burgers are cooked in 110 seconds on a double platform grill that he says sears the flavor inside.

Customers have the option of a fresh local bakery bun or a multigrain bun. Fresh cut fries, onion rings and salads round out the menu.

Thomson says the Crave Burger concept has been in the works for a few years. It started with the idea to develop a good hamburger joint that also served a few healthier alternatives. That is where they came up with the idea to offer all menu items with the option of ground beef, turkey burger or chicken.

The partners decided to put their idea in motion when the lease was about to expire at the Moorhead Extreme Pita location. They felt the residential location near Concordia College was perfect for Crave Burger. Diners looking for a hamburger in the area have the option of fast food or bar fare, so they thought Crave Burger could offer a great alternative.

“We just didn’t want to have a hamburger, cheeseburger and a bacon cheeseburger,” said Thomson. “We wanted to create a burger company that would have some unique offerings.”

One such example is The King Burger, which features peanut butter, applewood-smoked bacon and carmelized onions.

Thomson and Leslie, who also own Extreme Pita locations in Fargo, Minot and Phoenix, have no plans to convert the other locations, but a second Crave Burger location is planned on Veterans Boulevard in West Fargo. Additional locations are also possible in Bismarck, Minot and throughout South Dakota and Minnesota.

Once the business is established, Thomson says the ultimate goal is to franchise or license the Crave Burger brand.
