Jamestown ND Guard unit not heading overseasFARGO — A Jamestown-based unit of the North Dakota National Guard as been removed from an alert for a potential mission to Afghanistan.
Soldiers of the 817th Engineer Company learned that they will not be mobilized as the unit will no longer be needed for the previously anticipated mission.
Adjutant general Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk says he's grateful for the unit's willingness to take part in another mission, but also thankful that their families will no longer need to worry about spending a year apart from their soldiers.
The nearly 100 soldiers received an alert notification in December and began preparing for a potential spring 2014 mission.
