Top two F-M country stations switch ownership Monday; big surprises comingBy Wendy Reuer
FARGO – The top two country stations here, Froggy 99.9 and Bob 95.1 will officially switch ownership on Monday.
While the majority of on-air talent will remain where they are, the owners of both stations have a few surprises in store for listeners in August.
The first comes in the form of new hosts for the Froggy morning show. Popular hosts Jesse and Amanda with Pike aired their last show on Wednesday.
Since then, the trio have remained mum about where they’ll be heard next, only to say it won’t be on Bob 95.1.
Bob – which on Monday will return to former owner Jim Ingstad with the Radio F-M Media – has its own morning show: Chris, John and Jane. Those three will be on air as usual Monday, said Chief Operating Officer Nancy Odney for Radio F-M Media.
So who will be heard on Froggy come Monday morning? Midwest Communications – which will take over the station Monday – is keeping it under wraps.
“That’s a darn good reason to listen on Monday,” Peter Tanz, vice president of operations for Midwest, said Friday.
The morning show will be followed by longtime Froggy personality, Lilly Pad.
“We have people with years and years of country experience in this building,” Tanz said. “Our primary goal on Monday is to make sure Froggy sounds as good coming out of the studios in this building as it did down the street.”
Radio F-M is just blocks away from the Midwest Studios on 25th Street South.
The lineup of Bob 95 will remain the same.
“There really won't be any difference for the listeners,” Odney said.
Midwest Communications isn’t the only radio conglomerate with some surprises.
Odney said Radio F-M will launch a new station at 5 p.m. on Aug. 19 that will feature morning hosts Jesse and Amanda with Pike, and other hometown favorites.
Where on the dial the new station will be found and its format has not been released.
Along with the morning show hosts, former Y-94 morning host, Megan Zayic is returning to the Red River Valley after leaving in July 2012 for Iowa.
Zayic was recently named one of popcrunch.com’s “50 Hottest Women of Radio,” coming in at 35th.
Odney said other well-known area voices will also return to the new station.
Curious listeners can watch for information about the new station on Jesse and Amanda with Pike’s Facebook page.
