Moorhead man who lost fist fight accused of assaulting foe with car

MOORHEAD – After losing a fist fight prompted by a volleyball game, a 35-year-old Moorhead man faces felony charges for allegedly ramming his car into the car of his opponent.

Shukry A. Mohammad, 2940 17th St. S., is charged in Clay County District Court with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and first-degree damage to property.

According to a court complaint:

Deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to call about 8:25 p.m. Tuesday regarding a road rage incident in the area of 70th Street and Interstate 94 in Clay County.

A male told deputies he was playing volleyball in Moorhead’s Gooseberry Park when he got into an argument with Mohammad.

The male said the two agreed to fight and decided they would do the fighting at the Interstate Dragways parking lot near Sabin.

The male said he won the fight, but as he was driving away Mohammad used a vehicle to ram his vehicle several times, twice in the parking lot and twice on the highway.

He said when he got out of his disabled vehicle Mohammad tried to run him over.

The victim said he was saved when a passerby saw what was going on, drove up in a vehicle and let him jump inside for protection.

Deputies located Mohammad at the rest area on Interstate 94 in Moorhead, and Mohammad told them he and another male had gotten into an argument in Gooseberry Park and that they both went outside of Moorhead to fight.

Mohammad said the other male punched him in the face while he was sitting in his vehicle, so he rammed the other male’s vehicle.

When deputies arrested Mohammad, they noticed he was injured and took him to a hospital for treatment of a broken jaw.
