According to information provided by Lt. Joel Vettel:
A man called the Red River Regional Dispatch Center about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday and said he had just accidentally shot himself in the leg with a handgun.
The man directed police to the apartment building he was in, but he was only able to tell dispatchers that he was somewhere on the third floor.
Officers knocked on doors until they found the right one, though they required assistance from the Fire Department to open the apartment’s locked door.
A man was found in a large pool of blood in the bathroom of the apartment and transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
The man’s identity was not released and the incident remains under investigation, according to Vettel.
