Moorhead man gets 28 days for beating childMOORHEAD – A Moorhead man was sentenced to 28 days in jail Monday after pleading guilty to allegations that he beat an 11-year-old girl.
Tyler James Otterson, 24, was sentenced to a one-year jail term with all but 30 stayed and given two days credit for time served. He is also sentenced to two years of probation.
In charges filed March 7 in Clay County District Court, prosecutors alleged the girl said she was beaten with a belt and spanked as often as 10 times a day. She also claimed Otterson and another adult had duct taped her hands and mouth.
Otterson pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child. A felony count of malicious punishment of a child was dismissed.
