F-M Pride to hold marriage equality eventMOORHEAD – F-M Pride will host a community-wide marriage equality celebration at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Usher’s House, 700 1st Ave N.
The event honors same-sex couples participating in a mass wedding ceremony at midnight Thursday at the Clay County Courthouse.
“We are excited to host an event that honors loving couples in the Fargo-Moorhead area,” event organizer Kristen Benson said. “There are several same-gender couples who live in the region and will be among the first to marry in Minnesota, so a pre-wedding reception seemed fitting given the late-night ceremony. All people who want to celebrate this historic event are invited to attend.”
Gov. Mark Dayton signed the marriage equality bill May 14. The law takes effect Thursday.
Minnesota will join 11 other states and the District of Columbia in legalizing marriage for same-sex couples.
The Clay County Courthouse will open at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Judges Lisa Borgen and Michelle Larson will preside over the group ceremony.
