Letter: A new City Hall is excess and waste

Is there anything wrong with the current Fargo City Hall? This strikes me as just one more example of how our taxes are too high, and our elected officials looking for ways to spend the money.

Keep City Hall where it is, scrap the tunnel project, stop the parking garage studies, stop expanding bike lanes, restrict home buyouts, stop granting select businesses special abatements, end the expanding surveillance program, sell Courts Plus to a private owner, fix the pensions and lower property and sales tax dramatically. Doesn’t that sound better than a new $12 million City Hall?

There was once a time when North Dakotans prided themselves on utilitarian public buildings. Cheap, well- built, useful and efficient. How did we get to this point where we must have Minnesota-like cathedrals to government excess?
