F-M firefighters win annual 'Battle of the Badges' blood driveFARGO — Area firefighters recruited 340 blood donors, beating out their law enforcement counterparts in the seventh annual Battle of the Badges blood drive.
Each year, the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Association of Fire Fighters compete to recruit blood donors for United Blood Services at the West Acres Shopping Center.
The four-day drive, which kicked off Tuesday with a tug-of-war between the two teams, brought in 659 donors this year, according to a release from United Blood Services. The law enforcement team recruited just 21 fewer donors than Team Fire with 319.
Since the event started in 2007, more than 4,500 people have donated blood with about 1,400 first-time donors.
