Moorhead's Brenda Elmer to seek re-election to council

MOORHEAD – City Councilwoman Brenda Elmer will seek re-election to her 3rd Ward seat.

Elmer, who was elected to her first four-year term in 2009, made the announcement in a news release on Friday. The election is in November.

The city’s 3rd Ward covers the southern part of the city along the river.

“I am so very pleased to live in Moorhead,” Elmer said in the release. “We have so much going for our community, but we need to keep working on making Moorhead even better.”

Also up for re-election are 2nd Ward Councilman Mark Altenburg and 4th Ward Councilman Mark Hintermeyer. Hintermeyer, who plans to run for mayor, cannot run for both seats.

Councilman Luther Stueland from the 1st Ward announced Tuesday he won’t seek re-election this year. David Hallman, a Clay County licensed social worker, will run for Stueland’s open seat.

The filing period begins July 30 and ends Aug. 13.
