River search called off in Fargo

MOORHEAD – Police and fire officials on both sides of the Red River searched the banks this morning after authorities received a call that somebody was heard yelling for help near the river.

Officials used at least two inflatable watercraft to traverse the river just south of Interstate 94.

Fargo Assistant Fire Chief Gary Lorenz said the search was called off at around noon after further information led officials to doubt someone was in the river.

Lorenz said an employee at the Fargo Country Club told authorities a bike was seen near the river about 5:45 a.m. this morning and at around 8:30 a.m. calls for help were heard near the river. A call was made to authorities a little before 10 a.m., Lorenz said.

He added that the river banks are muddy and officials could see no signs that anyone had gone into the water.
