FBI: Teen shot on Spirit Lake Nation; 5 in custodyGRAND FORKS - A 16-year-old male was was shot on the Spirit Lake Nation Thursday, according to the FBI.
Kyle Loven, a spokesman for the FBI in Minneapolis, said the teen was airlifted Thursday to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, where a nursing supervisor said Friday that she could not issue a condition report or provide other information without a name.
Loven said five people were detained following the incident and are in tribal police custody, including a man identified as Nick Jack, whom Loven described as "a person of interest."
Marty Foote, acting Bureau of Indian Affairs police chief at Fort Totten, said the incident occurred about 4:30 a.m. Thursday in the St. Michael housing area.
The FBI continues to investigate in cooperation with the BIA and tribal police.
