NDSU, Hoak Media extend deal

FARGO – North Dakota State and Hoak Media further cemented their relationship Thursday with the announcement of a three-year contract extension and the airing of all 11 regular-season football games.

It will be the second straight year every Bison football game will be seen across North Dakota. The North Dakota NBC Network will air 10 of the games with the season opener at Kansas State being televised by Fox Sports 1.

The contract extension came in the middle of a current deal with Hoak, which owns Fargo-based Valley News Live. Financially, NDSU will get a percentage of net advertising sales from Hoak, said NDSU director of broadcasting Jeremy Jorgenson.

New to the contract extension is Bison basketball, which could air up to 10 men’s games and two women’s games.

Each NBC football telecast will involve a state-wide 30-minute pregame show. Former Valley News Live weekend anchor Brian Shawn will return as the play-by-play announcer. Bismarck KFYR-TV sports director Lee Timmerman and Moorhead High head coach Kevin Feeney will return as analysts with Valley News sports director Jamal Spencer handling sideline duties.

That crew will broadcast seven games including a road game at Southern Illinois. All games are expected to be in HD with the exception of the road game at Youngstown State, which the North Dakota NBC Network will pick up from a local Youngstown, Ohio, affiliate.

Three home games – Delaware State, Northern Iowa and Illinois State – will be made available to Fox College Sports.

Also Thursday, the Missouri Valley Football Conference announced over 50 league games will be aired on a myriad of television networks. The league will produce seven games including the NDSU at Indiana State game with Scott Warmann at the play-by-play and Danan Hughes with the analysis.
