Fargo man arrested, charged in early morning assault

FARGO – A 38-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning and later charged in Cass County District Court with burglary and aggravated assault after police responded to a call of a woman screaming for help from an apartment balcony.

Jason A. Mayse, of Fargo, was arraigned this morning on the two felony counts.

The incident happened in the 1700 block of 39th Street S., according to Lt. Joel Vettel, who said when officers arrived at the scene they entered a third-floor apartment and found blood on a wall and a woman trapped in the bathroom who was barred from leaving by a man who was blocking her way.

The man, who police later identified as Mayse, had to be subdued with a Taser, Vettel said.

Officers learned that Mayse, who had been in a past relationship with the woman, entered the woman’s apartment about 2 a.m. Wednesday and attacked her, Vettel said.

Mayse is scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 22.
