Casselton Legion rolls to 17-3 victory

CASSELTON, N.D. – Top-seeded Casselton erupted for a 14-run fourth inning to claim a 17-3 opening-round win over Central Valley-Hillsboro Tuesday at the North Dakota Class B, Section 3 American Legion baseball tournament.

Chad Rehovsky, Garrett Ebach, Mitch Scheer and Nick Holm combined for nine of Casselton’s 11 hits while combining to drive in 10 runs.

Holm, who was the winning pitcher, went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Scheer scored three runs and had three RBIs.

Chris Gjelsness had two RBIs for Central Valley-Hillsboro.

Casselton advances to today’s 3 p.m. winners-bracket game against Hope-Finley. Hatton and Gardner will play at 5:30 p.m. in the other winners-bracket game.

Alex Aberle hit two home runs and knocked in five runs to lift Hope-Finley over Thompson.

Hope-Finley’s Lucas Montag was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Skyler Carlson was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI to pace Thompson.

Mayville-Portland 2

Mike Paulson led Hatton over Mayville-Portland, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

Hatton’s Tyler Hagen was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Mayville-Portland was led by Aaron Evans, who was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Gardner 10, Larimore 1

Hunter Ward was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to help Gardner roll past Larimore.

Taylor Kyllo picked up the win on the mound for Gardner, striking out 11 batters. Kyllo also was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Brayden Hofer and Daniel Landman each were 2-for-3 with a double to lead Larimore.
