29-year-old injured in motorcycle crash near Emerado

RURAL EMERADO, N.D. — A motorcycle driver was taken by ambulance Monday afternoon to Altru Health System in Grand Forks after a crash near Emerado, N.D.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the motorcycle driver, Kyle Rowe, 29, East Grand Forks, was not released. The North Dakota Highway Patrol confirmed in a press release that Rowe was wearing a helmet and protective clothing.

The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m., one-half mile east of the Emerado exit on U.S. Highway 2, about 15 miles east of Grand Forks.

According to the press release, Rowe was in the left lane of westbound traffic when he rear-ended a gooseneck trailer being towed by a pickup truck attempting to make a left turn on to Northeast 24th Street. The trailer sustained light damage where the motorcycle struck it. The motorcycle was totaled and hauled away from the scene by a tow truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, Jesus Diaz Jr., 32, Gilby, N.D., was cited by the Highway Patrol for driving a vehicle with an improper class license. Diaz and his two passengers were not hurt, according to the press release.

Security personnel from Grand Forks Air Force Base helped direct traffic, which backed up at times for about three-quarter miles, around the scene of the crash. Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department and Emerado Fire Department also responded to the scene. Emergency responders cleared debris from the scene and traffic was back to normal by 6 p.m.
