Construction of new Barnes County School behind scheduleLEAL, N.D. – Construction on a new Barnes County School here is behind schedule and some parents worry it won’t be finished by the start of the school year.
Two of the three schools in the district are no longer property of the district. The district planned to combine the buildings into one, which is currently under construction.
At a School Board meeting on Monday, construction managers told WDAY-TV they couldn’t give a definite date for when the building will be complete.
Officials said school will still begin on time, on Aug. 27.
Mark Lindahl, Barnes County School superintendent, has been looking into using a school near Rogers, which was recently sold by the district.
“There is a possibility we can work out something for a short period of time to hold classes over there,” Lindahl said.
Allie Carpenter is sending her 5-year old girl to school for the first time this fall.
“I think it’s very exciting to combine and be one school,” she said.
Carpenter said she remains hopeful the new school will be finished in time.
Leal is about 15 miles northwest of Valley City.
