Trade Talk: Organic café coming to Fargo

FARGO - An organic, natural foods café is coming to Fargo-Moorhead. Minneapolis restaurant owner Chuck Anderson is bringing the People’s Organic Café to 2853 45th St. S. in Fargo.

He plans to open the restaurant Nov. 1.

There are three POC restaurants in the Minneapolis area, but Anderson’s is the first franchise version of the café.

The menu will include bison burgers, upper-end salads, veggie burgers, fair trade coffee, organic wine and more. The Fargo People’s Organic Café will be 4,000 square feet with a 2,000-square-foot patio and a drive-thru.

The food is “incredible,” Anderson said.

Crave Burger to open

Bye-bye Moorhead Extreme Pita; hello Crave Burger.

The Extreme Pita restaurant at 2501 8th St. S. closed June 30. Co-owner Troy Thompson said he and business partner Robert Leslie plan to open Crave Burger in that location around Aug. 1.

Crave will offer fresh-cut fries and 12 different burgers made with the customer’s choice of ground beef, ground turkey or chicken breast. The exotic end of the shop’s offerings includes the king burger, which has peanut butter, bacon and caramelized fried bananas.

Don’t worry, traditionalists. You can get a regular, classic burger, too.

Thomson and Leslie owned the Moorhead Extreme Pita and the three Extreme Pita restaurants in Fargo. None of the Fargo Extreme Pitas are closing.

Viet Palace coming soon

The space that used to be home to the Grand Buffet at 1620 32nd Ave. S. in Fargo is getting a brand new occupant: the Viet Palace.Tommy Nguyen will own the nonbuffet, Vietnamese restaurant. His wife, Brenda Phung, will help operate it. She said they hope to have it open by the end of August or beginning of September.

3 ND spots make list

Three North Dakota establishments, including two in the Fargo-Moorhead area, made the “Wine Spectator” 2013 Restaurant Wine List Awards.

The awards highlight eateries around the globe that offer the best wine selections. Making the list were the HoDo in downtown Fargo, Maxwell’s in West Fargo and Sanders 1907 in Grand Forks.

This year, 3,793 restaurants were named award winners. Those restaurants span all 50 U.S. states and 76 other countries and territories, along with 11 cruise ships.
