Fargo soccer teams tie Brazil, beat Costa RicaBLAINE, Minn. – Two boys teams from the Fargo Soccer Club tasted some success at last weekend’s USA Cup, including a tie against a team from Brazil and a win against a team from Costa Rica.
The U12 Warrior boys team claimed a 3-1 win over Lincoln School Costa Rica in the semifinals before falling 6-0 in the championship game against South Sioux City (Neb.).
The U11 Flash boys team scored with five minutes remaining to post a 1-1 tie against Jocquey Club de Sao Paulo of Brazil. It was the only blemish for the team from Brazil. The Flash then lost 3-2 to the Waunakee Purple Strikers of Wisconsin in the quarterfinals.
“It is one thing to play Canadian teams, but quite another to have the experience of playing teams from Costa Rica and Brazil,” said Fargo Soccer Club president Matt Noah. “Our players were in awe of those teams, but once the games started, it was simply a matter of playing a team of boys their own age.”
Members of the U12 Warriors team are: Sebastian Zasada, Owen Mears, Caden Triggs, Patrick Smith, Pierce Johnson, Dylan Dauenhauer, Joe Mickelson, Habram Martinez, Casey Haldis, Luke Noah, Aaron Gerlach, Matthew Motschenbacher, Jordan Miranda and Tianna Daniels.
