Fashion in Focus: Feminine florals
Kerr, one of my style idols, knows the key to looking amazing is learning to wear a trend while maintaining your own personality.
Here are four ways for your style to blossom in pretty florals this summer.
1. Find a sunny silk dress
If you want the perfect mix of sweet and sexy, put on a floral dress. Kerr looks easy-breezy in her sunny floral midi dress.
Choose a light fabric with a pattern that is not too overwhelming.
Floral dresses are seen in mini, midi and maxi lengths. If you are petite, stick with minis or midis, and stay away from the longer lengths that overwhelm your small frame.
Nude or tan shoes elongate your silhouette and coordinate with every color.
For an edgier take, try pairing your dress with a gladiator sandal. For a “boho-chic” twist, try a ankle boot. Ballet flats are the perfect footwear if you want to look sophisticated and girlie.
Round out your look with a pair of paparazzi-ready statement sunglasses and you’re set to go.
2. Haute-inspired Hawaiian shirt
Kerr looks cool and ready for summer in a gorgeous floral button down shirt paired with floral shorts.
If you’re not up for mixing patterns, try swapping the shorts out for a cropped skinny jean in a dark wash or white. Add a strappy high-heel or flat sandal.
You can take the inverse approach with a pair of flowery shorts and a solid top, finished off with a ballet flat or sandal.
Add in your own style with a fun hat or a sexy fedora like Kerr.
3. Blossoming bottoms
Kerr is right on point by mixing her flower-print pants with a solid, light-weight T-shirt. A simple tee in a neutral color dresses down the look and helps even it out so you don’t get lost in the print.
Kerr paired the outfit with a nude pump for some sophistication and to keep her silhouette looking long.
I love how she threw in a red statement bag. Keep in mind, you don’t need to match your shoe color to your handbag. Nude or tan shoes go with every color bag.
4. Blooming blazer
Kerr’s lovely navy floral jacket with a simple black tank and dark wash skinny jeans looks sophisticated.
If you try a floral blazer, think feminine, not flashy. Keep it updated by choosing a fitted shape made from a lightweight fabric with soft shoulders.
Don’t pair the jacket with a trouser pant, but instead with a skinny denim jean or pant to keep your look young and fresh.
To balance the print, wear the coat with a neutral top and shoes.
Try a jacket with a white tank top and a pair of white shorts or jeans paired with flat sandals for a fresh summer look.
