Lisbon residents celebrate effort to save theaterLISBON, N.D. — A small town in southeastern North Dakota is celebrating a successful campaign to save its theater.
A committee help raise more than $120,000 that will help the historic Scenic Theater in Lisbon convert its film equipment to digital technology.
The contributions included more than 300 local donations and a $47,500 grant from USDA Rural Development.
The city of Lisbon plans to lease the equipment to theater owners Al and Betty Michels at a nominal fee. Installation is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Committee spokeswoman Amy Lyons says the effort shows the overwhelming generosity of residents and others.
A donor appreciation event and free picnic is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sandager Park in Lisbon.
