Man arrested after driving moped through campus, several yards to evade police
An officer observed a moped driving on the wrong side of the road near Concordia around 1:20 a.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the Moorhead Police Department. When the officer attempted to stop the driver, he refused to stop and tried to evade officers.
With the assistance of other officers who were watching where the suspect was going, the department was able to take Anthony James Olgeirson, 32, into custody when he tried to avoid a fenced yard and turned toward an officer, police said. The officer pulled Olgeirson off of the moped near the intersection of 20th Avenue South and 14th Street.
As of Thursday morning, Olgeirson was being held at the Clay County Jail on the following charges: fleeing a police officer (felony); reckless driving (misdemeanor); unregistered motor vehicle (misdemeanor); disobeying a stop sign (petty misdemeanor)
Police say they are still trying to determine who owns the 2007 Honda Ruckus that Olgeirson was riding.
