Letter: Display our love, not our fearsWhat was Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., thinking? He is willing to spend federal dollars to put 20,000 more “troops” on the ground between Mexico and the U.S. How is it that when legislators want to spend money on any military program, it’s “spend to protect,” but when Democrats spend, it is called “tax and spend.”
It sounds like fear is the driving factor in our country’s spending rather than love. Fear of strangers, of losing jobs rather than love of neighbor.
We complain about President Barack Obama trying to take away our Christian values, but we are the ones who are not applying Christian values to immigrants’ lives. It’s time we reclaim our Christian heritage of loving immigrants as our neighbors. It is time to let Sens. Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., know that we want a bill that demonstrates our love rather than our fear.
