Letter: Bully intrudes on neighborhood

The Rosewood Nursing Home on north Broadway is bullying the Fifth Street North neighborhood residents by running roughshod with their plan to expand the existing parking lot and replace two residential properties with additional parking.

The nursing home is now owned by the Presentation Sisters, and the management has no consideration for the neighborhood residents and demonstrates its uncaring attitude with the demolishing of an existing home (which was bequeathed by a pro-neighborhood person who became a resident of the nursing home and died shortly thereafter) with no notice to the people next door who needed to put up with bulldozers, jackhammers and large trucks within 3 and a half feet of their exterior walls.

When a resident inquired to the CEO about this unwelcome invasive action and reduction of property values, the CEO responded “the house we bought out (next to the current parking lot) cost us more than the appraised value, so, that suggests property values have increased with the nursing home’s parking expansion.” How do you argue this kind of twisted logic?

The dismissive attitude exudes beyond description, and we shall not forget the first-class chapel being built with tax-free dollars, as this institution qualifies as a charitable 401(c)(3) trust. What was once an excellent and inclusive neighbor has now been diminished to a nonrespectful arrogant bullying force.
