Nitro, Fargo police dog, to retire after 10 years

FARGO – Nitro, the longest -serving police dog in the Fargo Police Department, is retiring after a shift today.

Nitro assisted the Fargo Police Department for 10 years tracking down criminal suspects and finding illegal narcotics.

His handler, Officer Richard Nechiporenko, will care for Nitro during his retirement.

Nechiporenko has been a police dog handler for approximately 23 of his 30 years as a Fargo police officer. Nitro’s retirement marks his departure from the police dog unit as well.
