Letter: Republicans slap farmers in face

The failure of the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives to pass a farm bill is a slap in the face to the people of North Dakota. As the people of our state well know, our livelihood and economic stability rely upon a sound, consistent and well-managed farm program that gives our farmers the ability to compete in the global marketplace.

By allowing Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., and other members of the far right to insert radical amendments to the bill, which have no chance of becoming law, the Republican leadership has once again shown their dysfunction and willingness to put ideology ahead of the good of the country.

It was Democrats who began the farm program in 1933 – Democrats who have consistently supported and strengthened it since, and Democrats who have passed a fair farm bill in the Senate now. If you want a farm bill, vote for the party that supports it.
