Tuesday tip: Clean fine jewelry with household products

FARGO – Most jewelers recommend monthly professional cleanings for wedding rings and other fine jewelry.

But if you want extra sparkle sooner, all you need are a few minutes and a common household product.

Baking soda. Mix warm water with baking soda to create a paste. Rub paste around the ring’s stone and setting. Rinse. Dry and polish with a lint-free cloth.

Dishwasher detergent. Mix three parts warm water with one part detergent. Gently scrub ring with soft-bristle toothbrush. Rinse. Dry and polish with a lint-free cloth.

Ammonia. Mix three parts warm water with one part ammonia. Let ring sit in solution for three to five minutes. Rinse. Dry and polish with a lint-free cloth.
