Letter: Rep. Bachmann is a true patriot

Recently, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, R.-District 6, announced her retirement from Congress to the cheers and applause of her detractors. They said she was on the fringe, they questioned her intelligence and said she was prone to many gaffes.

Remember when she was campaigning to be president and said, “I’ve now been to 57 states, I think one left to go.” Or the time she was on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno and when talking about her bowling skills said, “No, no. I’ve been practicing … I bowled a 129. It’s like the Special Olympics or something.” Plus the time she made a statement about a tornado in Kansas and said, “There was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died, an entire town destroyed” – 12 people died.

Bachmann never made any of these statements, but President Barack Obama did. If the number of gaffes spoken could be translated into baseball batting average, Vice President Joe Biden would be batting close to .950.

Every human being misspeaks from time to time, even our most gifted politicians. But the media will attack and humiliate conservative voices every chance they get, while overlooking obvious gaffes from liberal voices.

If you want to see a real war on women, research what the liberal media has written and said about conservative women. If you believe in big government and are pro-choice, personal mistakes, gaffes, flaws in character and questionable past associations, will be overlooked or defended. But if you are outspoken and believe in limited government and are pro-life, the media will do everything it can to destroy you, leaving no stone unturned.

Thank you, Rep. Bachmann, for serving the country even though you faced such hypocrisy in the media. Thank you for defending our Constitution, personal responsibility and freedom. You are one of a few politicians left who still do.
