Namedroppers - 06/23/13NDSU NEWS: Brennan Bonn, son of Lee and Janet Bonn, Fargo, and Molly Scherer, daughter of Brian and Colleen Scherer, Fargo, have been admitted to North Dakota State University “with distinction.” Distinction means that NDSU is acknowledging them as honor students.
CONCORDIA NEWS: Concordia College has awarded scholarships to Jessica Sauvageau, daughter of Gene and Brenda Sauvageau, Horace, N.D., and Tyler Pederson, son of Dan and Janelle Pederson, Fargo.
Quin Buckellew, son of Jon and Anne Buckellew, Moorhead, has enrolled at Concordia College.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS: Several area students have been awarded Horatio Alger North Dakota Scholarships. Students and their high schools are: Paul Butler, Davies High School, Fargo; Malarie Fergel and Josie Stebner, Ellendale (N.D.) High School; Caitlin Stroup, Fargo North High School; and Taylor Thompson, Fessenden (N.D.) Bowdon Public School. Recipients were selected based on their demonstrated commitment to education, dedication to community service and strength of character in overcoming personal obstacles to achieve academic excellence.
Archer Daniels Midland Company has awarded Andrew Beyer a college scholarship. The ADM Scholarship program is available to children of ADM employees and winners are selected on the basis of college entrance exams, high school academic records, a school’s recommendation of a candidate and a student essay. Beyer is the son of Dale Beyer, an accountant for ADM-Benson Quinn.
BOYS STATE: Merrick Johnson, son of David Johnson and Madonna Johnson-Thomason, Moorhead, was elected mayor at the Minnesota American Legion Boys State held at Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall. His sponsor was the Melvin E. Hearl American Legion Post #21 in Moorhead.
HONOR SOCIETIES: Several area students were inducted into honor societies at the University of Minnesota Crookston. Students, hometowns and honor societies are as follows: Brooks Miller, Moorhead, National Society of Leadership and Success; Spilde Brileigh, Hillsboro, N.D., Alpha Lambda Delta; and Pahl Kendra, Fargo, Alpha Lambda Delta.
