Walk/run to honor fallen Guardsmen

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – The 14K Fallen Soldiers Walk/Run will take place here Saturday to honor the 14 North Dakota National Guard soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan during the global war on terrorism.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Quentin N. Burdick Sports Arena. Registration is $25 per participant or $60 for a family of three or more.

All proceeds benefit the North Dakota Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, which supports the national TAPS initiative to provide services to those who have lost a loved one serving in the armed forces. All participants will receive a T-shirt.

The event honors the following North Dakota Guardsmen: Spc. Jon Fettig, Staff Sgt. Kenneth Hendrickson, Sgt. Keith Smette, Spc. Philip Brown, Spc. James Holmes, Staff Sgt. Lance Koenig, Spc. Cody Wentz, Spc. Michael Hermanson, Sgt. Travis Van Zoest, Cpl. Curtis Mehrer, Cpl. Nathan Goodiron, Cpl. Christopher Kleinwachte, Sgt. 1st Class Darren Linde and Spc. Tyler Orgaard.
