Minnesota man charged with stealing copper from irrigatorsHASTINGS, Minn. - A Hampton man accused of damaging 13 irrigators in a farm field and stealing copper is facing theft charges.
John Allen Clements, 48, faces two charges of theft after he allegedly damaged the irrigators in a field south of Hastings in Dakota County and took the copper wiring from them in November.
According to the criminal complaint, the property owner reported that while he was driving his tractor Nov. 5, a pickup truck with two occupants and traveling at high speed almost hit him. The property owner then discovered the damage to the irrigators.
Authorities said that through an investigation, it was learned that Clements had sold significant amounts of metal consistent with the materials taken from the irrigators. When interviewed, Clements admitted he got up on the irrigators and unhooked the wires, the complaint said.
