Bison's Orgon earns lofty Summit League awardFARGO – North Dakota State senior track and field thrower Casey Orgon was named the Summit League’s Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday by the league’s head coaches.
Orgon is the first Bison to win a Summit Outdoor Athlete of the Year award. The Bemidji, Minn., native became the first NDSU men’s track & field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships and finished 21st in the hammer throw, earning honorable mention All-American status.
Orgon holds the NDSU school record of 216 feet, 6 inches in the hammer throw, which he set at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on May 25 to advance to the NCAA Championships. At the Summit League Championships, he captured his third consecutive league title in the hammer throw, becoming just the third man in league history to accomplish that feat.
