Fargo Davies student wins Fargo-Moorhead All-City women's golf tournamentFARGO – Soccer is the sport of choice for Fargo Davies student Jennifer Marsh, although this week may have given her second pick a pretty good boost. Golf is making a rally.
Marsh shot a personal-best 74 on Wednesday to win the Fargo-Moorhead Ladies All-City golf tournament at Rose Creek. The leader by eight shots after the first round, her steady play made it an easy walk around the south Fargo course.
She finished sixth in the North Dakota Class A state tournament as a Davies freshman last season. She was also on the Eagles’ varsity soccer team.
“If I had to choose between golf and soccer, I would probably pick soccer,” she said.
But what if her improvement on the course continues?
“We’ll see how it goes,” she said.
Her previous low round before this week was 76. She finished 12 shots ahead of Lauren Runsvold, who played Marsh almost shot-for-shot on Wednesday with a 75. It was just her second 18-hole round of the year.
“She’s amazing,” said Runsvold, pointing to Marsh as they walked off the 18th green.
Marsh finished birdie-birdie on Tuesday at the Fargo Country Club, including one on a chip-in, She was even-par on the front nine at Rose Creek.
“I was just trying to stay even,” she said, “but bogeys happen. It ended up being one of the best rounds I’ve ever played. Still, there were a few shots I left out there.”
Marsh is a forward in soccer. She plays hockey but took last year off and isn’t sure about this year. The rest of the championship field this week, however, is sure about one thing: the kid can play.
“Golf takes priority in the fall,” she said.
