Seats from UND's old Ralph Engelstad Arena going on sale
Berger Enterprises, the company responsible for demolition of the old Ralph, is selling seats from the arena for $20 per seat (plus tax) with cash or check or $21 per seat (plus tax) with a credit card.
Meredith Berger, project manager, estimates the company has about 4,000 seats. The arena originally had capacity of more than 6,000, but the remainder of the seats are either broken or had been taken, Berger said.
The seats, which are available in blocks between three and 14 seats per bench, will be sold at Berger Enterprises office in Emerado, N.D., just outside of the Grand Forks Air Force Base main gate.
The seats were originally molted into a cement backing, so they would need to be mounted onto a wall or separately fashioned into functional benches.
Berger Enterprises won’t ship seats. Anyone interested can call (701) 594-3385 or email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Berger Enterprises’ winning bid was almost $590,000 to demolish the old Ralph in order to make way for the UND Athletics High Performance Center, an indoor practice facility. The bid took into consideration the opportunity to sell a handful of items, including the seats.
Berger said some windows, doors, ceiling tiles from the entrance and players lounge, weight equipment, copper piping and generators were among the salvageable items.
Clearing out these items is expected to take until mid-July. From there, exterior walls will be coming down until about October, Berger said.
With the majority of the building being demolished through October, Berger foresees much of November to involve cleanup.
